Across it Eoff scatters hundreds of small discs in a full spectrum — cobalt, chartreuse, coral, lilac, teal, black, sherbet orange — some flat and opaque, others translucent, many stacked two and three deep so a disc reads as a colored lens over the one beneath. The dots crowd into a dense band through the center and disperse toward the edges, the whole thing organized like a burst caught mid-expansion. Raised above the glossy field, they cast real shadows; the surface is as much relief as painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eEoff, Texas-born and long based in Eagle Rock, studied at Claremont Graduate University and showed with Patricia Faure Gallery in Santa Monica for roughly nine years, until the gallery's closing. He works in oil, resin and wax on panel, describing his own surfaces as having an industrial or \"fetish\" finish — slick as glass — and this work sits squarely in that lineage: the pristine, high-gloss Southern California tradition that runs from the Light and Space and finish fetish painters forward.
