This exceptional and rare set of Scandinavian Modern iconic dining room chairs designed by Niels Møller, includes eight Model #78 side chairs and two Model #62 armchairs, all crafted from striking tiger maple and finished with contrasting black Danish paper cord seats. The rich, figured grain of the tiger maple is mesmerizing—especially where the flame-like patterns flow across the surface. Photos scarcely capture the depth and beauty of these materials.
The chairs have been meticulously professionally restored, and the frames present in excellent condition. The sculptural lines, hand-shaped joints, and tightly woven cord seats all speak to the extraordinary level of craftsmanship that defines the work of Niels Otto Møller.
The Chairs:

Each features a subtly curved backrest and elegantly sculpted frame, offering comfort and refined presence from every angle. This particular set, executed in rare tiger maple with black Danish paper cord, presents a dramatic and unique twist on a classic.

About the Designer:
Niels Otto Møller, founder of J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in 1944, was both a master cabinetmaker and designer. His work is synonymous with Danish modernism, marrying ergonomic function with elegant, flowing forms. Each chair reflects Møller’s devotion to traditional woodworking techniques and natural materials.
Møller was deeply influenced by and part of the design lineage that included Kaare Klint, often called the father of modern Danish furniture design, whose emphasis on proportion and craftsmanship laid the groundwork for a generation. He was also contemporaries with Hans J. Wegner, whose sculptural, organic approach paralleled Møller’s own, and Finn Juhl, who helped bring Danish modern design to an international audience with his expressive, humanist furniture. Together, these designers defined the golden age of mid-century Danish design.
