    • An extraordinary and exceptionally rare set of ten mid-century Danish modern dining chairs designed by Niels Otto Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. The set includes eight Model 78 side chairs and two Model 62 armchairs, each crafted in beautifully figured tiger maple and finished with contrasting black Danish paper cord seats.

Large, complete dining sets by Møller are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in this highly distinctive wood. The tiger maple gives the chairs a warm, luminous character, with rippling grain that becomes especially pronounced along the sculpted legs, back supports, and curved rails. Against the pale maple, the black woven seats create a bold architectural contrast while preserving the natural elegance associated with classic Danish design.

Both the Model 78 and Model 62 demonstrate Møller’s mastery of proportion and hand-shaped construction. The gently curved ladder backs follow the body comfortably, while the tapered legs and seamlessly sculpted joints give each chair a light, fluid silhouette. The two armchairs feature gracefully extended arms that appear to grow organically from the frame, adding presence without compromising the delicacy of the design.

All ten chairs retain their original manufacturer’s tags and markings, providing important documentation and further enhancing the collectibility of the set.

The tiger maple frames have been meticulously restored by Hobbs Modern and present beautifully. The original black Danish paper cord remains structurally sound and usable, with some visible wear, minor staining, and age-related variation consistent with its vintage character. We have preserved the existing cord rather than replacing it, allowing the set to retain more of its originality and history.

A dining set of this scale can anchor a substantial dining room, conference room, or sophisticated hospitality interior. Refined from every angle, these chairs offer the rare combination of sculptural beauty, craftsmanship, comfort, and everyday functionality.

      About Niels Otto Møller

Niels Otto Møller founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in 1944 and became one of the most respected furniture designers and cabinetmakers of Denmark’s modernist period. His chairs are celebrated for their flowing silhouettes, ergonomic comfort, precise joinery, and unusually refined hand-finished details.

Like Hans J. Wegner and Finn Juhl, Møller helped define the golden age of Danish modern furniture. His work reflects the enduring influence of Kaare Klint’s emphasis on proportion, function, natural materials, and disciplined craftsmanship. Today, original Møller dining chairs remain highly sought after by collectors, designers, and admirers of authentic Scandinavian furniture.

A rare, and heirloom-quality set of ten—made especially compelling by its unusual tiger maple construction, original black cord, and complete combination of side and armchairs.
