    • A Soulful Masterwork of Organic Design

This rare and completely original George Nakashima coffee table is a poetic example of the master’s ability to honor the soul of the wood. Hand-built from a single slab of English Walnut, the surface shimmers with remarkable chatoyancy—a three-dimensional, almost liquid depth that shifts with changing light. The table’s top also features dramatic cathedral grain, a bold live edge on multiple sides, and a sculptural silhouette that speaks to Nakashima’s deep respect for natural form.

A single hand-cut Rosewood butterfly key elegantly stabilizes a natural fissure in the slab, marrying function and beauty. The leg joinery pulls all the way through the top, creating visible through- mortise and tenon construction — an unmistakable hallmark of Nakashima’s architectural approach to woodworking.

The asymmetry, organic contours, and unaltered edges reflect the philosophy of wabi-sabi—a celebration of imperfection and impermanence. This table is not only furniture, but a living sculpture.

      Dimensions: 68" L × 23.5" D × 14" H
Condition: Excellent, original studio condition from the original owner.  Original owner acquired the table directly from Nakashima. This table was made in 1961.
