A beautiful and authentic pair of Hans J. Wegner CH22 lounge chairs, designed in 1950 for Carl Hansen & Søn — one of Wegner’s earliest lounge chair designs and a cornerstone of Danish Modern craftsmanship. Both chairs come from the same original household and present as a thoughtfully matched pair with unique historical character.
Crafted in solid oak with Wegner’s characteristic sculpted armrests and elegant, organic backrest, the chairs showcase the designer’s mastery of proportion, joinery, and tactile form. Each chair is newly restored and currently in process receiving new hand-woven papercord seats, true to original factory specification.
One chair features an early production burn-mark stamp beneath the arm, indicating its first-generation manufacture. The second chair is an authentic later / 2nd-generation example that originally carried factory stickers, now lost over time — a common occurrence in mid-century Danish seating. Together, they represent the subtle evolution of early CH22 production while maintaining visual harmony as a pair.
The wood displays a warm, even tone with beautiful grain movement, and the restoration has been completed with respect for originality and historical integrity — the kind of careful stewardship we value at Hobbs Modern.
A rare opportunity to acquire two authentic CH22 chairs from the same provenance — ideal for a reading nook, architectural interior, or Danish Modern collection.
