A museum-level Studio Craft credenza by George Nakashima, handcrafted in solid American walnut with Nakashima’s signature live edge along the front of the top—an unmistakable gesture that preserves the tree’s natural contour and grain. The façade is book-matched walnut, creating a calm, flowing figure across the sliding doors, while the case sides feature his classic through dovetailed joints—both beautiful and structurally uncompromising.
Behind the doors, storage is thoughtfully divided: the left bay with adjustable shelves for flexible organization; the right bay with a fixed shelf for larger pieces and visual stability. The back bears the original client’s name, and the piece is accompanied by original receipts/documentation, affirming authorship and provenance.
Designed and made by George himself in his New Hope studio, the credenza embodies a quiet Japanese simplicity—restrained, elemental, and deeply tactile—balanced by the American walnut’s warmth and chatoyance. The low plinth feet ground the form; edges are softly eased by hand, inviting touch.
