    • A highly functional example of American mid-century modern design, this Paul McCobb Planner Group credenza is constructed in solid maple. Designed by Paul McCobb for the Winchendon Furniture Company as part of his iconic Planner Group collection, this piece represents the democratic modernism that made McCobb one of the defining voices of 1950s American interiors.

      Design & Configuration

The credenza features a versatile three-section layout: two flanking cabinet doors with adjustable interior shelving, and a central open compartment above three dovetailed drawers. The central open bay — with its adjustable shelf — is ideally proportioned for vinyl record storage on either side, making this a natural choice as a record cabinet or media console. The broad, flat top provides generous surface space for a turntable, components, or decorative objects. Four splayed, tapered legs give the piece its signature Planner Group stance — grounded yet effortlessly light.

Hardware throughout is the classic cone-shaped brass pull, McCobb's most recognizable detail and one of the most copied forms in mid-century furniture history. The original pulls are present and intact.

      Condition

      • Top: Professionally restored to a smooth even finish
      • Case & Exterior: Good original condition with age-appropriate patina consistent with a piece of this era
      • Interior Cabinets: Light age-appropriate wear visible inside the cabinet bays — nothing that detracts from the piece (see photos)
      • Original Label: Partially intact Winchendon Furniture Co. / Paul McCobb label on the top drawer — a key provenance marker for collectors
      • Hardware: Original brass cone pulls present throughout
      • Previous owner cut out a hole for electrical cords to go through the back.

      Why Solid Maple Matters

The Planner Group was largely produced in birch and solid maple. The density and warmth of the maple lends this piece a richness and weight.

      Ideal Use Cases

      • Record / vinyl storage cabinet (LP records fit perfectly in the flanking bays with shelf adjusted)
      • Media console / TV stand for flat screens up to approximately 65"
      • Entryway or dining room credenza
      • Home office storage
