    • A beautiful early 3rd-generation Eames Lounge Chair in Brazilian rosewood and new Moss Green leather. Richly figured rosewood shells, prized for its dramatic grain, depth of color, and natural luster. Here, the veneer displays warm auburn and chocolate tones that look amazing with the moss green leather. This chair has been restored: Refinished Shells, New Leather, and New Shock mounts (Four mounts under the arms)

“Early 3rd Gen” is a sweet spot for collectors: it keeps several second-generation details while moving into later production refinements. Key identifiers on this chair include:

      • Rosewood shells with striking, book-matched grain

      •  Bronze bushings (retained from Gen 2 before the switch to plastic)

      • Rectangular cushion clips

      • Foam & leather upholstery (factory spec for this period)

      • New shock mounts installed

      Condition

      • Overall: Excellent vintage condition, fully functional and comfortable.

      • Leather: New Cushions in full aniline leather in moss green leather. We can also put this chair in classic Black Leather at no additional cost.

      • Shells: Rosewood presents with lively highly figured grain and depth; edges and finish are clean with light age-appropriate wear.

      • Hardware / mounts: Solid shock mounts and swivel operate smoothly.

      • Chair retains Herman miller labels on both the ottoman and chair.

      Design notes

The Eames Lounge Chair is the benchmark of American Mid-Century design—comfort engineered like a machine, finished like fine cabinetry. This early 3rd-Gen example reads warm and architectural: the rosewood chatoyancy lights up under soft daylight, while the Green leather keeps the silhouette relaxed chic.

At Hobbs Modern, vintage Eames Lounge Chair restoration is not a side business—it is one of our core specialties. We have restored hundreds of authentic vintage Eames Lounge Chairs and Ottomans, and our team works on them every single week. In fact, we maintain one of the largest collections of vintage Eames Lounge Chairs in the United States, and we always keep them in stock. We are constantly sourcing original chairs, carefully restoring them, and bringing them back to life for collectors and design lovers across the country. This deep hands-on experience allows us to recognize the subtle details that separate an exceptional collector-grade chair from an average example. Unlike many dealers who simply clean and resell, we fully restore each chair to ensure both beauty, comfort, and long-term structural integrity.

Every Hobbs Modern Eames Lounge Chair includes:

Four brand-new shock mounts installed under the arms — a critical structural upgrade valued at $950, preventing future failure and ensuring the chair is ready for daily use for the next 20+ years

Professionally refinished vintage rosewood shells — we carefully restore the original shells to reveal the richness, depth, and dramatic grain that make early vintage examples so collectible, a restoration valued at $1,250.

New premium leather upholstery and cushions — valued at $2,995, each chair receives new leather cushions built using period-correct construction with either down feather fill or proper high-density foam inserts depending on the generation and style of the chair.

This is what separates Hobbs Modern from other dealers selling vintage Eames Lounge Chairs. Many simply clean and resell. We restore. The result is a chair that looks exceptional, feels incredible, and honors the original design intent of Charles and Ray Eames—making Hobbs Modern the trusted destination for serious collectors, designers, and anyone seeking the very best vintage Eames Lounge Chair available.
