    • A beautifully proportioned vintage “Hunting” dining table by Børge Mogensen, showcasing the Danish designer’s remarkable ability to combine honest construction, restrained ornament, and sculptural detail. Executed in rich teak with brass supports, the table has a distinctly architectural presence while retaining the warmth and simplicity that define the finest examples of Danish Modern design.

The expansive rounded rectangular top features beautifully bookmatched teak grain, creating a subtle symmetry across the surface. A substantial solid teak edge frames the top, with gently rounded corners and softened edges that give the table a refined, tactile quality. The warmth and variation of the teak are particularly striking, giving the otherwise minimal form considerable visual depth.

Below, Mogensen’s construction becomes an important part of the design. The top rests upon two sculptural trestle-style bases with tapered legs and shaped wooden cross members. Slender brass stretchers run diagonally between the tabletop and lower supports, creating a wonderful contrast against the warm teak. Custom brass fittings wrap around the wooden crossbars, making the structural connections an intentional decorative element rather than something to be concealed.

Viewed from the side, the table is exceptionally elegant—the thin horizontal plane of the top appears almost suspended above the substantial wooden bases, while the brass stretchers introduce a delicate linear element beneath it. The combination of teak, brass, tapered legs, curved cross members, and exposed construction gives the table a sophisticated yet distinctly functional character.

Børge Mogensen was one of the central figures of postwar Danish furniture design, celebrated for furniture that emphasized exceptional materials, traditional woodworking, functionality, and enduring proportions rather than passing trends. The Hunting Table is an excellent expression of that philosophy: straightforward in concept, beautifully engineered, and elevated through carefully considered details.

This vintage example has been professionally restored by Hobbs Modern, bringing out the richness of the teak while preserving the character and integrity of the original piece. The brass provides a beautiful warm counterpoint to the wood and highlights one of the table’s most recognizable design features.

A striking and highly collectible example of mid-century Danish Modern furniture, this Børge Mogensen Hunting Table works equally well as a dining table, conference table, or statement table in a sophisticated residential or commercial interior.
