    • An impressive large-scale abstract painting by American artist Christopher Lane, titled Perpetual Reflection and dated 1971. Measuring more than six and a half feet wide, the work has a commanding architectural presence while maintaining a remarkably quiet and contemplative quality.

Lane constructs the composition through a rhythmic arrangement of elongated geometric forms and softly layered blocks of color. Warm washes of golden yellow, ochre, cream, orange, and rust occupy the upper portion of the canvas, gradually meeting deeper passages of charcoal, gray, and black below. Subtle arcs, bands, and repeated horizontal lines interrupt the geometry, creating the suggestion of reflections, horizons, architectural forms, or light passing across a landscape.

The title, Perpetual Reflection, feels particularly appropriate to the composition. Forms appear to echo and repeat across the canvas, while the transition between luminous yellows and darker lower passages creates an almost reflective division within the work. Small accents of red and black at the outer edges provide unexpected points of contrast and help draw the eye across its expansive horizontal format.

Painted in 1971, the work strongly captures the visual language of postwar American abstraction and the 1970s, balancing geometric structure with softer, atmospheric applications of paint. Its restrained palette and exceptionally wide proportions make it particularly well suited to a Mid-Century Modern, modernist, Minimalist, or contemporary interior, where it can function almost as an architectural element within the room.

The painting is signed and dated “Christopher Lane 1971” on the verso and retains an Abrams Family Collection label identifying the artist, title, date, medium, and dimensions—an excellent piece of documented provenance accompanying the work.
