A beautifully proportioned Danish Modern teak console table designed by Ib Kofod Larsen for Faarup Møbelfabrik, Denmark. Refined from every angle, this piece is a wonderful example of Kofod Larsen’s ability to combine restrained Scandinavian modernism with subtle sculptural details.
The console is crafted in warm, richly toned teak, with beautiful natural grain running across the top, drawer fronts, and case. Two wide drawers are integrated almost seamlessly into the front, maintaining the table’s exceptionally clean profile. Beneath the drawers, a gently curved sculptural apron provides one of the design’s most distinctive details, softening the otherwise rectilinear case and giving the console an elegant sense of movement.
The upper case appears almost to float above the open base. Slender legs taper toward the floor, while a full-width lower shelf adds both visual balance and useful display or storage space. The open architecture keeps the piece light and airy despite its substantial construction.
Importantly, the console is finished on all sides, including the beautifully figured teak back. It does not need to be placed against a wall and can comfortably float within a room—making it particularly versatile as a console, entry table, sofa table, serving table, or even a compact writing surface.
The original manufacturer’s label remains intact and reads “A/S Faarup Møbelfabrik — Made in Denmark — Design: Ib Kofod Larsen,” providing clear documentation of both designer and manufacturer.
This example has been professionally restored by Hobbs Modern and presents in excellent vintage condition. The restoration brings back the warmth, depth, and natural character of the teak while respecting the integrity of the original Danish craftsmanship.
A sophisticated and highly usable piece by one of Denmark’s most important mid-century designers, with enough architectural presence to stand on its own while remaining understated enough to work beautifully in a wide range of interiors.
